Christmas Movie Marathon

Christmas movies are a huge part of our family traditions. With our weeks packed with concerts, sports, music lessons, church activities and school, and our weekends busy with parties, games and a million other activities, we wanted to make sure we had some down time for our movies. (Check out this post if you want to hear more about how we blocked out time for our Christmas Traditions.) So this year we are trying out a new tradition. We blocked out an entire Saturday (except for one couples party at night), and we are filling it with a Christmas movie marathon.

We talked to the kids and we have 4 must sees: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, The Santa Clause, Christmas with the Kranks, and Elf. (We’ve already covered It’s a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, and The Nativity Story.) After doing a podcast with Mariah Leeson at Giggles Galore, I wanted to take this up a notch.

In honor of Christmas Vacation, we’re going to make sure to drink egg nog- we are not planning on eating a very dry turkey. ;) We’ll have cookies and hot chocolate for the Santa Clause. Sing Christmas songs like the carolers in Christmas with the Kranks, in between movies. And eat spaghetti for lunch in celebration of Elf- maple syrup and sprinkles are optional. We have been acquiring loads of popcorn in different varieties and goodies from sweet friends. So that and a fruit and veggie tray will keep us all happy with very little effort.

Not only am I looking forward to laughing our heads off together, but I can’t wait to spend an entire day in my jammies after such a busy season.
