Pretzel Rolls

In honor of my brother in law's birthday, we are talking about pretzel rolls today!!! These are his favorite! Does anyone else share our obsession with these things?? I first got addicted to these from Costco. They were awesome to take on family trips. Especially when we were headed to Disney and needed an easy sandwich or something. Pretzel rolls with peanut butter or Nutella held up for a few days in the back pack. I was devastated when our Costco stopped making the pretzel rolls. I was on a mission to find them and couldn't find any to match. So I decided to try making my own. And OH. MY. GOODNESS. These straight out of the oven cannot be beat. I ate may have eaten half a dozen yesterday. Yikes!!

Instructions:

First, pour 6 cups of water, sugar and baking soda into a pot on the stove. Bring to a boil.

While that's heating up, take your bread dough and form into balls. (See our video for how to make a perfectly round shaped roll.)

When the water has come to a boil, put the rolls in for 30 seconds on each side. While the rolls are boiling, make an egg wash. To do this, crack an egg into a small bowl with a teaspoon of water and mix it together with a whisk or a fork. The egg wash will give you pretzel rolls a really nice shiny sheen.

Take the boiled rolls out of the pot, and use a basting brush to apply the egg wash to the top of the rolls. Sprinkle with kosher salt.

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Bake for 15-20 minutes. In my oven, 17 minutes is perfect.

And VOILA!! You have some amazing pretzel rolls that would be amazing as sandwiches, slathered with Nutella, dipped in soups, or dipped in hot queso. Aren't they pretty?!! We especially love eating these on New Years Eve with our fondue, during the Superbowl, on trips or anytime my brother in law comes to town.
