Making Your Home a Reflection of You (Episode #109)
I love the topic of this week’s podcast: Making Your Home the Reflection of You. We get to hear from two awesome designers about how we can love the home we live in. They are giving us the best indoor, outdoor and budget friendly tips for staging our homes to sell and designing our homes to dwell.
Meet Danielle Barrett and Rainie Graham from LD Design Co. Danielle and Rainie share tips they give their clients and give us some glimpses of things that have worked for them in their own homes. One of my favorite parts of the chat was when Rainie made the comment that we need to stop trying to pattern our homes after our friends or people we follow on social media. We should be decorating our homes in a style that represents us. We should be surrounding ourselves with items that spark joy, instead of comparing our possessions to others.

front doors that are painted black often sell for more than houses with doors that are other colors

grease up squeaky hinges and lock on the front door
Where to start indoors when you are staging to sell or designing to dwell:

Take everything off the counters and start fresh. Only put back the things that are the most necessary.
Declutter/decorate kids’ rooms
Repair things- pick just 1 or 2 things to start

Ideas for Decorating on a Budget
Swap throw pillows and/or furniture from room to room.
Use a functional element to decorate. For example:
In the laundry room, use a tray to hold your detergent in a pretty bottle, vase to hold loose change or other items found in pants pockets, etc.
In the kitchen decorate with a nice looking cutting board that can be used as a decorative piece as well
Use your kids’ art as artwork- make a gallery wall with frames to hold their paintings/drawings, or use a line with clips on it. Rainie’s Family has a fun tradition of holding art shows to honor their children’s work. The family gets dressed up, the art is displayed in a special place. The kids have to answer questions from their parents about their art, and they even serve refreshments.
Make a gallery wall of family photos. Keep a file of photos so you can change them out every so often.
